Two Track is a music video series designed for Berklee’s YouTube and social media channels that features artists in an intimate setting with only one microphone and continuous camera takes. Each recording session will revolve around a single theme (i.e., connection, love, dreams) that can be expressed by the artist either through their track selection or through a short storytelling segment that will be recorded as part of the performance. The videos in this series will premiere at specific dates and times, but if you miss the premiere, each video will be public on the channel in continuity.
This week's Two Track features Kaiya Nyasha, performing her original music and covers with pianist Julian Wilson and saxophonist Sydney Ewing.
About the Artist
Layering lush harmonies over themes of self-love, 21-year-old alternative R&B artist Kaiya Nyasha uses her music as a call to action for the youth to empower themselves to rewrite their narratives. Her music is a celebration of culture, of womanhood, and of hope. The Miami native has found a balance in fusing socially conscious messages with upbeat, light-hearted grooves and catchy hooks.
Throughout her career, Nyasha has been able to study music in various capacities––as a contemporary vocalist, classical singer, songwriter, rapper, DJ, and producer. In the summer of 2021, she secured an internship as the social and digital strategist for the New York City–based, Black-owned independent label Heads Music, where she served as former Fugees member Wyclef Jean’s media manager. Nyasha was also recently featured in the 2021 Nike Air Max Day campaign to amplify the voices of women in music and in streetwear culture. She is currently a mentor, blogger, and instructor for the national nonprofit organization Girls Make Beats that aims to teach young girls audio engineering, DJing, and production. Ultimately as a creative entrepreneur, Nyasha anticipates facilitating the growth of future music moguls worldwide.
