Dance Accompaniment for Pianists

Description

This course explores the relationship between music and dance. Throughout the semester, students will learn piano techniques for different styles of dance ranging from ballet to modern and contemporary styles. Students will investigate how music can influence and enhance different styles of dance while also delving into the role of improvisation and composition. They will learn how to select, re-adapt, and create music specifically for dance rehearsals and performances. The course will include visits from a dance teacher to demonstrate various styles and assist student learning. Students will work with dancers and develop improvisational and compositional skills.
