This ensemble explores the rhythmic concepts of Indian classical music and their application in contemporary, jazz, and world music settings. Students will study tala cycles, konnakol (spoken rhythm), and compositional forms such as tihais and korvais, using them as frameworks for ensemble performance and improvisation. Through collaborative projects, students will learn to integrate Indian rhythmic structures with Western groove, harmony, and form. The course culminates in original ensemble pieces that highlight rhythmic creativity, intercultural awareness, and collective improvisation.
